Hello Kenneth,

Your help was perfect !
My variable is: C:\Program Files\pl5.6.64\bin since I had multiple installations of pl.
Version 5.6.64 was told to be the only one working for the ACE purpose.

The configuration in Protégé looks as follows:
ACE ->OWL service
APE local
SWI-Prolog:
C:\Program Files\pl5.6.64\swipl

APE:
C:\Users\Eddy\Downloads\owl_verbalizer-081202_unofficial\owl_to_ace.exe
Next 2 options are on.

OWL->ACE service
http://localhost:5123/
Next 4 options are on.

    Reading small ontologies is no problem.

    With bigger ontologies, I get the following error:
        OWL verbalizer error:
        Error accessing OWL->ACE webservice. Connection refused:connect.

When I change the setting
OWL->ACE service to:
    http://localhost/service/owl_verbalizer/owl_to_ace
    I get the error
        OWL verbalizer error
        Error accessing OWL->ACE webservice. Software caused connection abort: recv failed.

So, temporary conclusion is : ok for small ontologies, nok for bigger ones.

Sorry for the trouble but thanks anyhow for the received help.

Kind regards

Eddy

  Eddy,

  Try this:

  1) Click the start button and select Control Panel from the menu that pops up.
  2) In the Contol Panel, double-click on System.
  3) Select Advanced Systems Settings from the menu on the left of the window that pops up.
  4) Give Windows permission to continue by clicking the Continue button in the dialog that appears.
  5) In the next dialog that appears, select the Advanced tab, then click on the Environment Variables... button.
  6) Select the Path variable from the user variables displayed in the top portion of the dialog.
  7) Click the Edit... button to open another dialog that allows you to edit the variable.
  8) In the Edit User Variables dialog, add ";C:\Program Files (x86)\pl\bin" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\pl\bin" to the end of the Variable Value, depending on whether or not the Variable Value already ends with a semicolon. (Here I am assuming you installed SWI-Prolog in the default location.).
  9) Click the OK button to close the Environment Variables dialog.
  10) Click the OK button to close the System Properties dialog.
  11) Exit out of the System window.

  That should do the trick. Let me know how it goes.

    Hello Kenneth,

    In earlier days I found the autoexec.bat and config.sys files.
    Today I suppose I'll have to add the path variable to another file since I don't find these anymore.

    Could you plse indicate in which file I have to add the path ?

    Thank you in advance.

    Kind regards

    Eddy

      Eddy,

      I just got a new Windows box with Vista Home Premium (64-bit) installed and, when I tried to compile ape from make_exe, I had the same problem you originally reported on April 20 ('plcon' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.) The problem is with the installation of SWI Prolog. The installer doesn't add the path to SWI Prolog's bin directory (by default this is the directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\pl\bin") to the PATH environment variable. Manually adding the directory to your PATH variable should fix your problem (or at least it worked for me). If you don't know how to do this I think it will probably be easy to find detailed instructions online, but let me know if you have any further difficulties. I'd be glad to help. (I hope that either you managed to solve the problem yourself or that it isn't too late to help.)

      I just sent an email off to the SWI Prolog group reporting the problem.

      Attempto team: Now that I have a Vista box, if you would like me to test software installations or help with anything Vista-related, just let me know. I'll also keep an eye out for Vista-related problems reported on the mailing list.

        Strange. I'm out of ideas. :(

        Can you confirm that if you start the server on port 5123,
        and go to

        http://attempto.ifi.uzh.ch/test/owl_to_ace_localhost.html

        and press "Verbalize", then the browser displays:

        "John is a man."
